Instinct

Sometimes what seems like the most against-the-grain thing to do and what everyone else is least expecting, is exactly what you need in your life.

As a wild child since birth, I’ve always had the innate ability to leap into my adventures head first. Not everyone has that, or at least not everyone knows that they have that ability. I have a secret to share with you…

It is already in you.

Fight or flight – we all know the instinct. We know the inherent reaction to fight back or run for cover is in us all. And we know that instinct exists to protect us in perceived life-or-death situations.

Following along? Check.

What if I told you that true, lifelong happiness is one of those life-or-death situations? Would you believe me, or write me off as a dreamer?

All it takes to make my statement true, is for you to decide that what you want out of your life MATTERS.

When you do, and I mean really do believe that your dreams matter, your instinct will suddenly drive a desire to fight for your dreams instead of retreating when they become elusive, or difficult to achieve.

Sometimes, the opportunity to jump is right in front of your face. I’ll use an example that I’ve recently experienced both personally and as an observer of several of my close friends:

If your boss (or coworkers, or work environment in general) is making your job miserable, especially when you know your skillset is absolutely essential for smooth daily operation… quit! Or take a long vacation (and don’t you dare apologize). Better yet, apply somewhere else better suited to treat you the way you deserve to be treated. Or even better than that, start your own business and become your own boss. Anything but the slow pulverization of your enthusiasm and willingness to work hard for what you want out of life.

In a nutshell, instead of running from happiness, fight for it.When it all goes to hell, give ’em the old annexation of Puerto Rico. Kinda like getting your own motorcycle after nearly losing your life as a passenger, or falling in love with a 3-wheeler after riding motorcycles for 13 years. Don’t be afraid to follow your instincts when things just aren’t copasetic.

You’ll never regret zigging when the world tried forcing you to zag. Trust me on this one.
